Outsourced Events joins isla - The journey to find sustainable event solutions
Outsourced Events (OE) has become a member of isla, a leading organisation dedicated to accelerating the event industry’s transition to a sustainable future.
About isla
isla is an action-driven network founded by event professionals and industry leaders. Their mission is to provide practical guidance and support on environmental issues, helping agencies, brands, organisers, and suppliers to create sustainable events. isla focuses on three core areas: funding the transition, enabling decarbonisation, and restoring and regenerating nature.
The membership
OE sees this membership as a great step to meet the growing demand for sustainable events. By collaborating with isla, the aim is to integrate sustainable practices into the event planning and execution processes.
Key initiatives from isla:
1. Sustainable Event Planning: isla provides extensive resources and training to help event planners incorporate sustainability into every aspect of their events. This includes guidance on selecting sustainable venues, reducing energy consumption, and promoting sustainable transportation options for attendees.
2. Community and Knowledge Sharing: The membership will also allow OE to become part of a community of like-minded professionals committed to sustainability. Through workshops, training sessions, and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing.
3. Carbon Measurement and Reduction: One of the primary tools isla offers is TRACE, a carbon measurement tool designed specifically for the events industry. This tool could enable Outsourced Events to accurately measure and reduce the carbon footprint of their events.
The Journey has already begun with regards to training our team. In July 14 members of the team took part in their first isla training session 'Sustainability 101'. The course covered:
• Ensuring the team are fully up to speed with essential sustainability knowledge
• Learning terminology and economic models
• Embedding these learnings within the context of event deliveries and gaining practical guidance
The team learnt a lot and this session established itself as a valuable stepping stone for future training.
Hopes for the future
By combining OE’s expertise in event planning with isla’s sustainability knowledge, the aim is to create events that are not only memorable but also environmentally responsible. This has now become essential due to the growing recognition that sustainability within events and life in general is now a necessity.
Conclusion
The membership to isla represents a step towards OE’s commitment to a more sustainable future for the events industry. By integrating sustainable practices into our operations, OE hopes to begin to meet the demands of the more environmentally conscious but also contributing to the broader goal of reducing the environmental impact of events.
