Outsourced Events achieves Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validation
The SBTi has approved Outsourced Events' near-term science-based emissions reduction target, where we committed to set near-term company-wide emission reductions in line with climate science from the SBTi. Outsourced Events Limited commits to maintain zero scope 1 and 2 emissions and to measure and reduce its scope 3 emissions. Take a look below to learn more about zero scope emissions and why it matters for the events industry.
What are the benefits of setting a science-based target?
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with climate science is good for the planet and for businesses.
In a recent ‘We Mean Business’ survey, more than three quarters (79%) of business leaders agreed that science-based targets (SBTs) keep companies on track to specific timelines. This finding demonstrates the value of SBTs to businesses looking to accelerate their decarbonisation efforts.
Why it matters for events
As an award-winning event management company, we recognise our responsibility to minimise our impact and help our clients deliver more sustainable events.
Our SBTi-validated targets will guide our operations across:
Scope 1 - Direct emissions - From company-owned vehicles and facilities
Scope 2 - Energy consumption - From purchased electricity for our offices and operations
Scope 3 - Value chain emissions - The most significant portion of our carbon footprint, including:
- Supplier emissions - Working with venues, caterers, AV providers and other event suppliers
- Business travel - Team travel to events and client meetings
- Employee commuting - Staff travel to and from work
- Purchased goods and services - Materials, equipment and services we procure
- Waste generated in operations - Waste from our events and activities
- Downstream activities - Attendee travel and accommodation at events we manage
Looking ahead
Our focus will be on collaborating with venues, suppliers and partners to drive emissions reductions throughout the events ecosystem. By working together, where possible, on sustainable venue selection, responsible supplier partnerships, waste reduction strategies and innovative solutions for attendee travel.
Together we're demonstrating that exceptional events and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.
About the Science Based Targets initiative
The SBTi is a corporate climate action organisation that enables companies and financial institutions worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis. They develop standards, tools and guidance which allow companies to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions targets in line with what is needed to reduce global heating and reach net-zero by 2050 at the latest.
