Another Successful Year For Outsourced Events’ Student Sponsorship Scheme

Location: Outsourced Events, London

Each year, we offer two students a summer placement that gives them the opportunity to gain valuable experience working in an office environment, exposure to clients in a variety of industries and the opportunity to see first-hand if events may be a possible career they would like to pursue.

If after their 4 week paid placement they are successful, they then receive £1000 throughout the following year to help support them during their study on the understanding that they return the following summer for further paid work at Outsourced Events.

This year the agency employed two Sixth formers from St Benedict’s School in Ealing, Madeline Brooking and Paul Brown. Miss Brooking said of her placement, “I will always look back at my summer placement at Outsourced Events with a great sense of pride and gratitude to Denise for such an incredible opportunity. …I quickly learnt that unlike school, the work you do has a direct impact on the whole project and company. I have gained a lot from Outsourced Events, office friendships, critical life skills like budgets, costs, and communication. I can honestly say that my short time at OE has shaped me and it has opened my eyes to new career possibilities I would not have previously considered. The placement has made me more confident in my abilities and my advice for any student is to grab every opportunity. My time there has set me up well for University life as I am a much more confident person and I look forward to returning next summer”

Paul Brown commented, “The application for the position required a CV and an interview, a realistic requirement for future employment. In the office I worked on numerous tasks such as sourcing venues across the globe for international companies such as Sev One and creating presentations to display information regarding certain events. It was a great experience and was useful in developing numerous skills for the future. Additionally my colleagues were very welcoming and provided me with valuable guidance and knowledge. I would recommend this job to anyone who is interested in gaining useful experience in a work place and also a potential financial sponsorship for the future. I was very grateful to find that the company would be sponsoring me throughout the school year and offered me potential part time work during university. Most importantly I would also personally like to thank all those I worked with including Denise Sharpe and Alex Sibley who run the business and provided me with this opportunity.”

The scheme is the brainchild of Denise Sharpe, Managing Director of Outsourced Events who gave her thinking behind the initiative, “As a student I was lucky enough to gain sponsorship from GEC Marconi during the course of my degree and I found that the experience was invaluable. It was for this reason in 2010 that we launched our own Student Sponsorship Scheme. The students gain invaluable experience and we in turn have guaranteed cover during the busy summer period with bright and enthusiastic students who know our systems and are trained in the way that we work. Everyone is a winner! I think it would be great if more organisations offered such schemes – it’s an easy way in which to give something back to society whilst also benefiting as a company from the value that the students bring.”
