As Marketing Manager at OE, involved in talking about our events as opposed to actually managing them, I don’t very often get the opportunity to visit some of the fabulous four and five star venues that we source for our clients. We don’t as a rule, describe our venues in enormous detail, but we felt this one deserved a special mention as I was very lucky recently to be invited to a networking event aboard the iconic Orient Express Northern Belle.
We were greeted in the main station by stilt walkers, dressed as 1930’s conductors who guided us down the platform to where the train was stationed. Whilst enjoying a glass of warming winter punch, and listening to a brass band, we admired the engine and carriages before climbing into the sumptuous interior.
Decorated in a distinctive and opulent 1930’s style, I really felt like I’d stepped onto the glamorous set of an Agatha Christie Mystery. The walls were clad in a wood veneer painted with subtle landscapes.
There were nets above our head to hold any luggage and we sat in armchairs at tables covered in white linen and set for dinner with silver cutlery and cruets. All the glassware and crockery was monogrammed and there were fresh flowers on every table.
Once seated, the uniformed waiters filled our glasses with champagne and handed around delicious canapés which included lobster bisque served in small cups and roast beef with horseradish cream served on miniature Yorkshire puddings .
It was a delightful evening and a very special experience, one that would certainly create a great impression with your clients. The Northern Belle can pick up from any mainline station across the UK mainland and seats up to 246 for a gala dinner. We think it would be a fabulous venue for dinner following a CIO event!
