So, here it is! Another New Year!

Many event marketers have been busy reviewing what worked and what didn’t, and have already set strategies, budgets and plans for 2014.  With that in mind, we’ve packed this edition with valuable information and tips to help you get the best return on your events.

This week, the city of Milan in Italy welcomes Cisco Live, so you’ll find some tips to help you when visiting. You’ll find our recommendations for the best restaurant and venue as well as a brief introduction to the city.

If you’re planning to exhibit at any of the technology events such as the VMware forum series, Cisco Live or the SAP forums, then you’ll love our tips on maintaining brand consistency when liaising with so many different agencies and venues.

We also have a guest blog from social media and communications specialist, Lance Concannon, who outlines social media trends for 2014.

If you still need more advice, don’t worry: we’re here to help. Call for a chat on 0208 995 9495, or drop us a line.

SPOTLIGHT ON
Restaurant of the Month
Emilia & Carlo, Milan

Housed in an early 19C palazzo, this trattoria has a rustic feel with arches and wooden beams, creative contemporary cuisine, and a fine choice of wines. Colleagues ate there last night and would highly recommend it! Included glass of bubbly on arrival and having ordered 4 courses it actually became an 8 course tasting menu with all the lovely little extras delivered between courses.

Location of the Month
Milan, Italy

You’ll find all the designer’s flagship stores in the “Quadrilatero D’Oro” with boutiques and discount outlets in the streets surrounding it. If you have any free time, the Duomo (Cathedral) is a “must-see” as well as Da Vinci’s “Last Supper”, painted on the wall of the refectory adjoining the Basilica di Santa Maria delle Grazie. The city also has an efficient transport system including an underground system, buses and trams. As with everywhere else in Italy, don’t try to hail a taxi, they won’t stop, you have to find a taxi rank.

THE FUTURE BYTES
CES14 in Las Vegas earlier this month showcased the growing trend for wearable technology. Fitness wrist bands that integrate with mobile apps are not a new concept, but due to the rapid advance in micro technology, they are becoming more sophisticated and affordable.

We’ve been looking at one such band, the  “Fitbit Flex” as a potential event giveaway. Melissa Peyronny, one of our Event Execs, has been trialling the band which counts your steps, calories burnt and distance covered as well as assessing the quality of your sleep at night and wakes you silently in the morning; definitely all good to know when at an event!
