The Society for Earthquake and Civil Engineering Dynamics (SECED) joined the Outsourced Events fold in 2019, seeking help with the overall management of their conference on Earthquake Risk and Engineering towards a Resilient World. This was their first major conference to take place in the UK since 2015. With seven alternative streams to choose from on both days and a gala dinner in between, Outsourced Events was brought in to deliver various aspects of the conference; from pre-event logistics and budget management, to sponsorship sales and on-site support, our team was there to help.
SECED was founded in 1969 and aims to promote the study and practice of earthquake engineering and structural dynamics. The two-day conference was a great way for SECED to showcase rapid developments in the field.
The event attracted delegates from five different continents, with over seventy different job titles in attendance. This gave Outsourced Events the opportunity to put their delegate management skills to use. By overseeing visa letters and overseas enquiries, largely based on travelling to the UK and accommodation, Outsourced Events was able to make the process smooth for the delegates.
The first day of the conference was followed by the gala dinner at the Painted Hall at the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich. Nicknamed Britain’s Sistine Chapel, the space offered spectacular views both in and out of the venue; it provided the perfect backdrop for an evening of networking and discussing further the academic viewpoint expressed throughout the day. The overseas delegates in particular appreciated the event setting was a historic venue.
AAt the end of the two-day conference, awards were presented for best paper by a young author and also for best poster. Outsourced Events was responsible for the organising, sourcing and personalisation of these awards, along with managing the scoring system. This provided the perfect end to an insightful conference.
