Introducing Dimitri Coutya

Posted on: 25 August, 2016

Outsourced Events are proud to be sponsoring the remarkable 18 year old para-athlete Dimitri Coutya this year, as he takes on the greatest sporting challenge of his life in a couple of weeks’ time.

Celebrating Fifteen Years of Outsourced Events

Our decision to sponsor Dimitri came about after myself and Alex decided to put our heads together and come up with a fitting way of celebrating Outsourced Event’s fifteenth birthday. We wanted to mark the occasion by doing something completely different, and sponsoring local West Londoner Dimitri, an inspirational young man, to achieve his dreams seemed absolutely the right thing to do.

A Fencing Legend in the Making

Dimitri suffered a spinal cord injury when he was just two and was left without the ability to feel or move anything below his chest. Now 18 years old, this incredible young man has overcome this physical disability to become one of the most celebrated wheelchair fencing para-athletes this country has ever produced.

With only five years in the sport, Dimitri has already become national champion three times and is the current under 23 world fencing champion. In May of this year, he won a silver and bronze medal at the European Championships. Now the greatest sporting event of his life awaits him and we cannot wait to watch him compete against the world’s best.

Having met Dimitri back in June, Alex and myself were bowled over by his infectious humour and steely determination to be the best wheelchair fencer in the world. His love of his sport is also immediately apparent as well.

‘There is nothing quite like the feeling you get when you score a point – the rush of excitement that bursts from your heart and goes running across the rest of your body when you accelerate a sword point at blinding speeds and hit an opponent’s body’

We can’t wait to see Dimitri in action in a couple of weeks’ time and we look forward to watching his sporting career go from strength to strength in the coming years. Follow all our updates on our Twitter feed @outsourcedchat as well as our Facebook page.
